For those who are interested, I’ll be speaking at an AARP Michigan forum on political misinformation in Jackson, MI next Tuesday (free popcorn and soda!):
AARP Michigan will host a community conversation in Jackson on March 29 about myths, facts and confusion surrounding media coverage of national health care reform and other big issues, such as 9/11 and the war in Iraq.
Brendan Nyhan, a Robert Wood Johnson Scholar in Health Policy Research at the Univ ersity of Michigan, will be the featured speaker at the FREE forum, which will run from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Michigan Theater, 124 N. Mechanic St. in downtown Jackson.
Nyhan’s research focuses on political scandal and misperceptions. He’ll talk about how people get their information and why myths persist even in the face of accurate information. He co-authored “All the President’s Spin,” a New York Times bestseller and his research has been featured in the NY Times, the Washington Post and many other publications.
Responding to Nyhan’s speech will be a media panel including Dave Ackerly, WLNS-TV anchor, Wendy Day, conservative blogger and president of Common Sense in Government and Derek Melot, a veteran reporter and columnist for the Lansing State Journal. Mark Hornbeck, communications director at AARP Michigan and veteran statehouse reporter, will moderate.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Free popcorn and soft drinks will be available.
